For this first DEWIS Guest Lunch Meeting we prepared a surprise for you, a special guest will be invited to discuss the topic of ‘Diversity & Gender Equality’. Everyone (male and female alike) is welcomed to join the conversation on Tuesday 7th of December from 12.00-13.15 hrs in Pulse, Landbergstraat 19, 2628 CE Delft, (Entrance at the square at IDE). Our special guest Grant Sprick (Global Sustainability Director at Arcadis) will talk about the topic of Gender Diversity from his own perspective and he will share with us his own experience. After his speech there will be time for open discussion and a Q&A session. Since for this time we will have the pleasure of having male participants as well might be interesting to have an active exchange of perceptions and perspectives on the topic. Before the end of the meeting we will give you sometime for Networking so that you have the opportunity to exchange contacts and connect to find potential support from other peers. This time the meeting will be held in a hybrid fashion, meaning you can decide whether to come and join Face-To-Face or follow the Live Stream. Lunch will be provided. Hope to see you at the upcoming DEWIS Guest Lunch Meeting! Team DEWIS TU Delft |

Key Takeaways Collaboration Practices |
|
During the Virtual Coffee session in September we discussed ‘Collaboration Practices’ and some nice tips were shared from some of the participants regarding ‘how to activate collaborations, help each other and create meaningful networks with colleagues within Academia’. "I think we should assess each other's skills and find ways in which we can be complementary in creative ways" [Lina] Here some Key Takeaways we want to share with all the DEWIS network: ● Don’t be afraid of asking for help from others. ● Grab a coffee, it’s a good opportunity for starting conversations with colleagues. Show interest in what they are doing, their research topics, interests or field of expertise and share insights about yourself. ● Offer help and find mutual benefits. Which value can you share with other colleagues? What can you give and what can you take from them? How would your colleagues be beneficial for your own career and work and what would be your contribution to theirs? ● Getting to know who is around you and what these people do will help you to open up opportunities of cooperation and support. ● Be proactive and engage with people. Propose ‘short coffee brainstormings’ with your colleagues/coworkers or others. |

An open culture, where people are able to give feedback to each other, is essential. It promotes an open atmosphere where people don’t begrudge each other’s successes. |

Gender Equality in the Workplace: an interview with Martijn Warnier |
|
Are you curious about the opinions of management regarding the role of women in science? In a series of interviews we will hear their perspectives on gender diversity, equality and inclusion. What are their thoughts, feelings and actions on creating diverse and inclusive working environments? Today we are talking to Martijn Warnier, Professor of Complex Systems Design, and head of the Multi-Actor Systems Department in the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. Martijn: "I am convinced that people deliver their best work and are able to do the greatest things when they are in a situation in which they feel valued and where they can be themselves within the team. From a purely human perspective, it is desirable to create such a culture, but I also think that it’s good for science and for society as a whole. That goes hand in hand." |

DEWIS workshops D&I Week available |
|
DEWIS organized several workshops during the first D&I Week at the TU Delft in October. We are grateful for the interesting talks we had with the participants and would like to share a few highlights of the workshops with you. We had some interesting insights, like the Vision Thing during the workshop on Personal Leadership. And some good news: DEWIS is working on a follow-up on the workshop 'Harassment in Dutch Academia'. Please take a look on our website for more details. You can watch video's or read more about some of the topics we have covered. Thank you all for your contributions! |
